Dar es Salaam. The national team (Taifa Stars) this evening play Burundi’s Intamba mu Rugamba in a friendly battle at the National Stadium.
The match has been organized to mark 53 years of Tanzania mainland’s independence and its preparations are complete according to Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) national team coordinator, Martin Chacha.
Chacha said that despite the rivalry between the two East African sides, the match does not fall on Fifa dates as it is specially organized to cap the celebrations. He said that the Tanzania team will feature players who are under a special development programme famously known as “Maboresho” and already the team head coach, Mart Nooij has announced the final 23 players ahead of the encounter.
“We had good training in Shinyanga where all players showed good development, we expect a tough and exciting match as we want to revenge this time round as Intamba Mu Rugamba have won two matches against us,” said Chacha.
He said Burundi national team were expected to arrive by yesterday evening with the squad featuring mostly local players.
“This is because the match is not under the world soccer governing body (Fifa), so their teams did not allow them to travel to Burundi and join their national team; we however, hope the thrilling match will provide the opportunity for our players to get international exposure and experience,” he said.
The team head coach, Mart Nooij, said they expect to witness a good match technically and tactically and called on Tanzanians to turn up at the National Stadium to cheer the team. Already the Dutch technician has named 20 players ahead of the encounter.
The players are Aishi Manula, Miraj Adam, Andrew Charles, Gadiel Michael, Emmanuel Semwanda, Joram Mgeveke, Edward Charles, Afred Juma, Adam Paulo, Pato Ngonyani, Hassan Banda, Benefict Tinoco, Hussein Moshi and Aboubakari Mohamed.
